After a good night's sleep, Day 2 started with a little refresher of what makes a good hypothesis, independent and dependent variables, control groups, constants, and what kind of data you can collect. All very important info when students are planning their experiments.
The first activity of the day started with students getting cups of "stuff" and one student had to create something with it as well as write instructions for how to build their creation. Then their partner had to recreate the structure based on the written instructions.
Quote of the activity: "I really need to have written better instructions." This was the exact goal of the activity. Instructions need to show reproducibility for their projects.
After that, we got back to the technology. The CITs each took a probe and showed small groups of campers how to use that probe. Campers then rotated around to get a tutorial of how to use each probe.
Flow Rate Meter
Sound Intensity Meter
Light Meter (quite illuminating)
Heart Rate Meter
Dual Range Force Meter
Force Plate (everyone's favorite)
Carbon Dioxide Probe
Motion Sensor
This was the most useful activity of the day since students will use these probes in their mini-projects next week and also may use them next year in their own personal projects.
Tomorrow is a new day with new exciting things. I hope the kids brains are turned on b/c tomorrow is the start of STATS DAY!
